Here is a detailed explanation of all the services we offer: INSPECTION Piano inspected for general health and condition and any major problems identified ($80 - a quick inspection is included with any other service): Pin block is tested for weakness & tuning stability, soundboard & bridges inspected for splitting, action evaluated for issues, cabinet condition assessed, and more MOVING Piano moving or removal locally in Santa Cruz - ground floor less than 5 steps: ~ $250 upright, ~ $450 grand More steps / stairs/ challenges, or farther distance can be quoted. TUNING • Standard Tuning ($200): Standard tuning is if piano is not far out of tune. • Pitch Raise Tuning ($260): If piano has gone very flat it may require an over-pull tuning to bring up to pitch, followed by a fine tuning. HAMMER SHAPING & VOICING • Shaping ($150): Filing of hammers' felt to remove string grooves and restore proper shape, leading to a cleaner attack. • Voicing ($100): Needling of hammers for a more rounded, softer tone. CLEANING & LUBRICATION • Light Cleaning ($80): Wiping off dust, quick polishing and touch up of cabinet, cleaning of keytops. • Deep Internal Cleaning & Lubrication ($220): Fully taking apart the piano, removing all keys, blowing out dust from the keybed, inside cabinet and in the action with pressured air, de-tarnishing the strings, and lubricating key pins with dry lube. ACTION REGULATION & REPAIR • Touch-up Regulation and/or Minor Repairs ($100+): For instance - fixing several ’sticky”, double-bouncing, or clicking keys/hammers, making pedal adjustments, leveling key heights, tweaking let-off or lost motion, etc. • Full Standard Regulation (~$500 Upright, ~ $800 Grand): Extensive calibration of piano’s moving action parts to factory settings for smoother, more responsive, and even touch throughout - key level and key dip, blow distance, lost motion, let-off, drop, back-checks, pedal and damper adjustments • Yamaha Hammer Flange Cord Repair ($700): Unfortunately, many Yamaha uprights built during the 1970s and 80s had a quality control issue regarding the silk cords that wrap around the hammer return springs. They disintegrate and snap over time, leading to issues with bouncing/blocked hammers and sluggish feeling action. The action has to be taken apart so that these old cords can removed and then replaced with newer, more durable cords, which is a meticulous procedure. CABINETRY WORK • Cabinet detailing ($200+): Scratch and blemish removal, buffing and polishing finish, pedals & brass shining • Complete refinishing of cabinet ($2000-$3000+): A labor intensive and lengthy process - Cabinet full taken apart and old finish stripped off. New finish applied, followed with lacquer or polyester layer on top.
