DEPOSIT & SALE

If you are too far to visit our workshop, we have had many satisfied customers who have bought pianos from us at a distance, with the help of high resolution pictures, audio, video and/or facetime - which we can provide for any piano upon request.

 

$200 deposit to reserve a piano. Upon reservation, piano can be stored at our facility for up to 30 days. Deposit is non-refundable, though can transferred as deposit for another available piano.

 

​Upon delivery of the piano, all sales are final.

​​If sale is cancelled on day of delivery a $100 restocking fee applies.

Remaining payment of piano is to be completed at time of delivery.

We accept trade-ins toward buying a piano if it is a high quality brand.

We can remove a piano for you upon delivery.

WARRANTY​

​

1 year warranty applies to pianos installed in a building within 100 miles

from our workshop and goes into effect on day of delivery.

​

Warranty covers the structural and mechanical integrity of piano. This includes:

• Structural Components - Cracks in soundboard, pinblock failures, or broken cast iron frames, etc.

• Mechanical Parts - Defects in internal action parts leading to issues like sticky/dead keys.

​

Warranty does NOT cover :

• Structural or mechanical damage caused by the owner (i.e. an object fallen into the action) or third party movers that may move the piano after our initial delivery.

• Tuning and General Maintenance - routine tunings are the responsibility of the owner.

• Environmental Damage - Damage due to improper management of direct sunlight, extreme shifts in temperature and humidity, etc.

• Normal Wear & Tear - natural felt compression/deterioration, minor cosmetic and keytop wear and discoloration due to aging.

​Warranty claims will be addressed typically within 2 weeks though can extend longer.

Warranty repair cost not to exceed $1500 in total calculation of parts and labor

DELIVERY

​

Delivery is included to ground level of address provided by buyer, with no more than 5 steps leading to entrance.

​If more than 5 steps, then photos of stairs are to be provided to assess the​

delivery and an additional quote for such a delivery will be issued.

​

The cost of piano delivery to your location depends on your distance from our workshop and the price of the piano you purchased.

Unless stated or negotiated otherwise, free delivery is primarily limited to within 50 miles from our workshop to ground floor with 5 or less steps. 

​

Delivery can be denied at the discretion of Starlight Pianos if deemed to have

too much risk or challenge. Delivery from a third-party piano moving company can then be arranged by buyer.

​

An average of $200 will be credited to buyer if they hire a third-party piano moving company.  Budget pianos sold at $1500 or less will have an average of a $100 credit for such pianos sold with 'delivery included'.

We also provide piano moving services on a case by case basis, if you ever need piano moved again at a later date.

TUNING

 

Tuning is done before delivery in our workshop, and then we check after installation to ensure it has held its tuning.

 

We do not include tuning at your home after delivery, unless we have to come to an agreement to do so, or the piano has gone noticeably far out of tune during the move, which is very uncommon since we do a very smooth delivery.

 

It is usually recommended to tune your piano once a year, and you can find a local piano tuner by searching online via google, yelp, craigslist, etc. 

We typically are too busy reconditioning pianos in our workshop to provide in-home piano tunings for customers, though there may be exceptions on a case by case basis.

SOUND & APPEARANCE

​

The sound / tone of piano will often vary from what is experienced in our facility versus​​ a different environment.  The temperament of the tone will change depending on distance to a wall, type of floor material, size of room, etc.

​

An acoustic piano has thousands of moving parts made of wood, metal, and felt, so hearing faint mechanical thumps, clicks, or pedal movements is standard, and is not itself an indication of a mechanical defect, thus is not covered by warranty.

Warranty only covers a prominent noise caused by clear mechanical defect, i.e. loose hammer head, split key, buzzing string, worn/missing felt.

The appearance of piano may also vary in different environments due to color of lighting, angle of lighting and brightness of lighting.

On the other hand, buying a new or used piano from a piano dealer can be prohibitively expensive.

We aim for the sweet spot of both quality and affordability, and make finding the right piano for you an enjoyable and easy experience!​

Our piano shop is located in Santa Cruz County but we also operate and deliver pianos within the whole SF Bay and Monterey Bay areas. 

​We are among the last remaining piano stores in Santa Cruz County. Since we don't have a typical retail storefront and have low overhead, you get the advantage of stellar pianos at a deep discount to what you would see in a typical piano showroom.

We provide from budget friendly starter pianos and up to premium level pianos for more experienced players, bridging the gap between junkie free pianos on craigslist and overpriced pianos from dealerships.
